René Descartes died in 1650 and was born in 1596 (not 1696 of course).

ReplyOptionsFollowing a discussion of this problem with Thomas Foregger, I believe it deserves an asterisk (="harder problem") and a

Hint:Show that if vertices of a triangle have rational coordinates, then tangents of its angles are rational.ReplyOptions$b \sin C$ next to the x-axis should be $b\cos C$

ReplyOptionsIn the first displayed formula, one of the denominators $x''=x'$ should of course be $x''-x'$.

ReplyOptionsNear the bottom of the page, in the paragraph labeled (iv), the solution to a sample system of liner equations, $2x-3y=1$, $6x+5y=7$, is incorrect. The easiest way to fix the sample is to change the 2nd equation into $6x-y=7$ (and of course use the equation in the changed form on line 7 from bottom). Then the given solution becomes correct.
